Cub Scouts is a Scouting America program for youth in kindergarten through 5th grade. Scouts participate in fun activities, work on projects, and learn valuable lessons related to the outdoors, safety, fitness, citizenship, family, and reverence.
Cub Scout packs are made up of dens based on grade level. In their dens, Cub Scouts explore, learn, and grow together. They develop new skills and interests, practice sportsmanship and good citizenship, and learn to do their best.
Pack 48 is a Cub Scout pack based in Uptown New Orleans and chartered by St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The Scouting Program at St. Andrew's was founded in 1929 and is the oldest Scout Program in the Southeast Louisiana Council.
Pack 48 is inclusive and welcomes all children and families. Our Scouts attend several different area schools, including St. Andrew’s, Newman, ISL, Audubon, Hynes, Morris Jeff, Willow, Ecole Bilingue, and Lycee Francais, to name just a few.
Dens in Pack 48 are co-ed and typically have between 6-15 scouts, with one den leader and one assistant den leader.
We are committed to the youth we serve and to the mission of Scouting America.
We have a lot of fun adventures in Pack 48. We have pack meetings once month and a pack event/activity once month. We camp twice in the fall and twice in the spring. Every fall we camp at the Louisiana Renaissance Festival. We sleep on battleships and we visit local fire stations. We take day trips to local educational sites such as the INFINITY Science Center, the Kenner Planetarium, the Audubon Louisiana Nature Center, and the World War II Museum. Other activities include nature hikes, fishing, archery, sailboat and pinewood derby races, and collecting food donations for the food pantry.
Pack 48 has two scheduled activities a month from September through May. The Pack meets once a month at St. Andrew's School. At pack meetings, scouts play games and do fun activities that teach them invaluable lessons about the outdoors, personal safety, personal fitness, citizenship, and family and reverence.
In addition to meetings, the Pack also has a scheduled activitiy once a month, such as camping trips, day trips, and other fun events.
The annual cost is about $200 per scout. This includes:
The National membership fee of $85 per scout, plus $7 for insurance.
Pack 48 dues of $60 per scout.
The SELA Council's program fee of $60 per family*
*Please note that the SELA Council fee is per family, so that if you have mulitple children registered in the pack, you would pay this fee only once.
Pack dues go toward paying for group campouts, badges and awards, derby and regatta kits, and other pack expenses. Council dues support council-wide programming events such as Zoofari, the Fall Camperall, and Cub World, as well as maintaining the Salmen Scout Reservation, where many council events take place.
